The Ascension Lutheran Church Nursery School program provides a nurturing environment addressing the needs of the total child.
Through developmentally appropriate teaching strategies, our instructional program offers age appropriate learning experiences that encourage social, emotional, and academic growth. Our students are exposed to a broad variety of learning experiences during the school day. Regular activities include time for free play, pre-reading and pre-math skills, art, music, literary enrichment activities, fine motor and gross motor activities, development of social skills and a daily snack.
The 3 and 4 year olds partake in Science/Art and a variety of in-house programs presented by community resources, such as visits from children’s authors, fire fighters, police officers and various other professionals in our school community.
The 4 year old classes participate in popular field trips, such as concerts, dramatic productions, a visit to a farm, and a hike at a nature center.
We strive to establish a framework for further educational success by encouraging creativity, building positive self-images, and fostering a love of learning.
We encourage parental involvement in the classroom through visits, parent-teacher conferences, holiday and birthday parties, and field trips.
Class size and Teaching staff
In order to promote individual attention for each student, our class sizes are limited, and each class is staffed with a lead teacher and an assistant teacher. Students also receive specialized instructions from our school music teacher and a science/art teacher who works with the 3 and 4–year-olds. Our lead teachers are highly qualified college graduates, and our assistant teachers have completed Early Childhood Education course work. Our teachers are kept current with CPR and First Aid accreditation. Teachers are also required to attend Early Childhood Education Workshops each year.
In addition to our regular curriculum, we offer an optional Mid-Day Enrichment program:
- 3′s & 4′s – Monday thru Friday 12:00 to 2:30pm
These special interest programs include time for lunch, indoor and outdoor free play, and activities centered around a specific theme, such as nature and animals, fairy tales, multi-cultural celebrations, games from around the world, music and art.
Registration for Mid-Day Enrichment begins in September for classes running October through May.
